Кролики
Вспомнился мне посреди ночи один славный ситком от господина Линча. «Кролики». Эдакая сюрреалистичная смесь «За закрытыми дверями» Сартра и сериала самого дешевого пошиба.
Прежде всего, стоит отметить богатство доступных интерпретаций. Кто-то скажет, что это стеб над ситкомами восьмидесятых, но, простите, на момент съемки уже свирепствовал 2002 год, а это «Матрица», «Амели» и «Шрек». Традиционный формат юмористических сериалов а-ля » Married… with Children», якобы пародирующийся в миниатюрках Линча, уже подсох и подгнил. Можно подумать, что это наша с вами скучная и будничная жизнь, предварительно пропущенная через Беккета, словно через мясорубку. И, разумеется, просто обязаны возникнуть ассоциации с адом, с каким-то дьявольски изощренным наказанием.
Сразу бросаются в глаза детали мозаики, которые отчаянно не хотят складываться в общую картину. Прежде всего сами антропоморфные кролики, закадровый смех, периодические явления кролика-демона. бесконечный дождь, песни-монологи персонажей, аллюзии на «Твин Пикс». Герои более-менее свободны, могут выходить из комнаты, хотя вряд ли за ее пределами происходит что-то хорошее. Джек пытается понять цикличность событий в ситкоме и вспомнить что-то о человеке в зеленом (по-моему, единственный цвет, которого нет в линчевской палитре). Джейн пытается понять, кто она, и восстановить хоть какую-нибудь хронологию событий, не понимая, что в цикличном мире это невозможно. А Сьюзи, чуть ли не рациональная фигура в этом цирке абсурда, сообщает, что происходит вокруг и бродит со свечами, когда наступает темнота.
По-моему, все проще. Линч создал настолько абстрактную и бессмысленную вещь, что наш разум ее просто не приемлет. Никак нельзя поверить в то, что эти сорок минут экранного времени лишены хоть какой-либо подоплеки. Даже самой тонкой или самой безумной.
Мы ищем первопричину. Мы устанавливаем мотив. И если нам не удается найти суть, то мы эту суть навязываем. Каждый в меру своей душевной организации. Мы ведь все время грешим тем, что выдумываем причины, истоки поступков других людей. Зачастую информации так мало, а поступки настолько иррациональны, что мы начинаем хвататься за любые доступные объяснения.
Да, Линч издевался над ситкомами и их буржуазной аудиторией. Да, Линч показывал нам бытовой и экзистенциальный ад. Да, Линч построил сложнейшую символьную головоломку для самых упорных и внимательных.
Нет, господа, Линч просто снял «Кроликов». А все остальное додумали мы, посторонние зрители без возможности залезть в чужую голову. Я ни в коем случае не осуждаю его за такое творение. Ведь мы наблюдаем рождение ужасающей абстракции. И каждый силится ограничить ее. Но это бесполезно.
Красный.
Кролик.
Дождь.
Поющая.
Полночь.

JANE: There is something I would like to say to you, Suzie
Laughter
JACK gets up and looks outside. He then exits.
Other rabbits stare for a while.
JACK enters; long applause
JACK takes a seat
SUZIE: Oh?
JACK: It must be after 7:00P.M.
SUZIE: I have heard those things being said before.
JACK: I bet you’re both wonderful.
JANE: It’s still raining.
SUZIE: I have misplaced it; I am sure of it now.
JANE: All day.
JACK: It was a man in a green suit.
SUZIE: Why?
JACK: It may even be later.
SUZIE: I am going to get them.
SUZIE enters hallway
JACK stands up
JACK sits down
JACK: Where was I?
JANE: I only wish they would go somewhere.
JACK: I almost forgot.
JACK exits
JANE sits
JACK enters; long applause
JACK takes a seat
JACK: Were you blonde?!
JACK: SUZIE?
JANE: I could hear it also.
JACK: When it happens, he/you will know it.
Room turns red, SUZIE enters with lights on hands
Demonic face with deep voices… unintelligible words… may have said “Little bunny…” at end.
SUZIE exits, camera loses focus and lights return to normal
Camera refocuses and SUZIE enters
Pause, camera fades to black.

Knocking; JACK gets up and opens the door; the rabbits stare

SUZIE: He goes to work each morning, and then he comes back home each night.
JACK: It may have been a coincidence.
SUZIE walks around and sits on couch.

He takes a seat
SUZIE: It has always been like that.
JACK: When did you go out?
JANE: I have known since I was seven.
Laughter
JACK: It happens all the time.
Phone rings; rabbits stare
after about 5 rings, camera briefly zooms in on camera and then zooms back out
after more ringing, JACK gets up and answers phone
dead air.
SUZIE: There is no moon tonight.
JANE: I said it looks like it is still raining.
SUZIE: Where was it exactly?
SUZIE: Do you remember?
JANE: Is it that late?
JACK hangs up and takes a seat.
JACK: Since then?
SUZIE: It’s getting darker.
Camera fades to black.

SUZIE: It was red.
JACK: (tilting head back) Did he say anything?
Laughter
SUZIE: You could not do anything?
JANE: No one can know about this.
SUZIE enters hallway
Long knocking; JACK gets up and answers door; he pauses
JANE: It happened to me only once.
SUZIE’s shadow can be briefly seen moving in hallway
JACK exits room.
SUZIE (Offscreen?): It’s past midnight!
JACK enters; long applause; he takes his seat
JANE: All day.
SUZIE (Offscreen?): There is something here!
JANE: It happened like that earlier.
JACK: Who could’ve known?
Room turns red; SUZIE enters with lights on hands
Demonic face with deep voices… unintelligible words… possibly: “Where is to…” “what a blow, let me go”
Room turns completely black expect demon face and SUZIE’s hands; the face says something unintelligible

SUZIE fades as she exits, percussive sounds
SUZIE enters
SUZIE: I heard it too.
JACK: Do not forget what I have told you.
Door opens on its own, creaking; rabbits look at it; pause
startling female scream; room goes black, with only light source wavering and coming from the hall
Percussive sound more metallic than before. sound (thunder?); camera loses focus and then refocuses during previous scene
Rabbits do not seem to be stirred; SUZIE slowly walks to door and closes it
SUZIE: And then, there it was.
JACK: No, Nothing.
JANE: Well then, it must be very dark.
SUZIE walks around and sits on couch.
The rabbits seem to snuggle with her in a comforting manner
JACK: It was the man in the green coat.
JANE (?): I wonder who I will be.
Camera fades to black.
